A Treasure from Nature: The Oil of the Miracle Tree
The vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the so-called castor bean (Ricinus communis) – known as castor oil – has long been established as a firm component of high-quality natural cosmetics. Products such as our cold-pressed organic castor oil are considered an insider tip for skin and hair care. The high content of ricinoleic acid makes it a true all-rounder for the daily beauty routine.
What makes ricinoleic acid in castor oil so valuable?
Ricinoleic acid – an exceptional monounsaturated fatty acid – is the main active ingredient in our cold-pressed organic castor oil. It is known for its soothing and germ-inhibiting properties. Around 90% of the oil consists of this valuable component. Ricinoleic acid can help strengthen the skin, stimulate circulation, and reduce inflammation.
In addition to ricinoleic acid, our cold-pressed organic castor oil also contains vitamin E as well as omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, which together provide intensive moisture and support the natural regeneration of skin cells.
A study published in 2016 suggests that castor oil can activate hair follicles and promote growth. Furthermore, the oil is said to have an antibacterial effect, which makes it particularly effective for blemished skin and acne.
FAQs about our cold-pressed organic castor oil
What is cold-pressed organic castor oil and how is it made?
Our cold-pressed organic castor oil is obtained from the seeds of the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis) through mechanical pressing at low temperatures. This particularly gentle process ensures that the natural active ingredients such as ricinoleic acid, vitamin E, and unsaturated fatty acids are fully preserved. Castor oil produced in this way is particularly pure, unadulterated, and free from chemical residues – ideal for use on both skin and hair.
What benefits does cold-pressed organic castor oil offer for skin and hair?
Cold-pressed organic castor oil is rich in nourishing ingredients and simultaneously provides moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. Castor oil can strengthen the skin barrier, support regeneration, and, with regular use, stimulate hair growth. Castor oil is particularly popular for dry skin, split ends, brittle eyelashes, or blemished skin.
Is cold-pressed organic castor oil suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, cold-pressed organic castor oil is very well tolerated due to its natural, unprocessed composition. It contains neither fragrances nor preservatives and is therefore excellent for people with sensitive or allergy-prone skin. Castor oil can also have a soothing effect on skin conditions such as neurodermatitis or acne.
Can cold-pressed organic castor oil promote hair growth?
There is evidence from studies and numerous anecdotal reports, all of which state that cold-pressed organic castor oil can promote blood circulation in the scalp and thereby stimulate hair follicles. Accordingly, the ricinoleic acid it contains supplies the hair roots with nutrients, strengthens the hair structure, and can lead to stronger and thicker hair with regular use.
How to properly use cold-pressed organic castor oil?
You can use our cold-pressed organic castor oil either pure or in combination with other oils. For hair care, we recommend an overnight treatment. To do this, gently massage the oil into your scalp and leave it on overnight. For eyelash care, a small amount on a clean eyelash brush is sufficient. For skin care, you can apply our cold-pressed organic castor oil either locally, for example on dry patches, or over a large area if required.
Does cold-pressed organic castor oil clog pores?
No, cold-pressed organic castor oil has a very low comedogenic rating (approx. 1). This means that it generally does not clog pores. On the contrary: due to its antimicrobial properties, castor oil can even support impure or oily skin and regulate sebum production.
Is cold-pressed organic castor oil vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes, high-quality cold-pressed organic castor oil – like that from Dafabme – is a purely plant-based product. It is made from organically grown seeds without animal ingredients or animal testing, making it not only vegan but also cruelty-free.
What is the shelf life of cold-pressed organic castor oil?
Unopened, cold-pressed organic castor oil generally has a shelf life of between 12 and 24 months when stored in a cool, dark place. Our glass packaging further protects the oil from oxidation. Nevertheless, to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the ingredients, we recommend using the bottle within 6 months of opening.
How does cold-pressed organic castor oil differ from refined castor oil?
Unlike refined castor oil, which is often treated with solvents, our cold-pressed organic castor oil remains completely natural. It contains no residues from the production process, and at the same time, the full concentration of active ingredients is preserved. This makes it particularly well-tolerated and effective – especially for sensitive skin or for use on delicate body areas such as eyelashes or lips.
Is cold-pressed organic castor oil also suitable during pregnancy?
Many pregnant women appreciate cold-pressed organic castor oil for the care of dry skin or stretch marks. As it is a very skin-friendly product, there is generally nothing against external use. However, since castor oil can have labor-inducing effects, its use during pregnancy – especially in larger quantities – should be discussed with a doctor beforehand.
How does a castor oil pack with cold-pressed organic castor oil work?
Castor oil packs are a proven method from naturopathy. A cloth is soaked with our cold-pressed organic castor oil and then placed on the skin – typically on the abdomen or liver area. The combination of high-quality oil and soothing warmth is said to promote blood circulation, stimulate lymphatic flow, relieve cramps, and support general well-being. Such a castor oil pack is particularly often used for digestive problems, menstrual pain, endometriosis, or for gentle liver care.
For the application, you will need a soft cotton or flannel cloth (alternatively, a gauze bandage also works), a hot water bottle or a cherry pit pillow, cling film or a wax cloth for covering, and an old towel as a base. Now soak the cloth with our cold-pressed organic castor oil – preferably in a bowl or directly on the skin – and then place it on the desired body area. Then cover it with film to prevent leakage, place the hot water bottle or cherry pit pillow on top, and let it work for 45 to 60 minutes.
After the application, it is best to clean the treated skin area with a warm, damp cloth to remove any oil residue. You can store the pack in an airtight container and reuse it multiple times.
Even though castor oil packs with our cold-pressed organic castor oil are generally well tolerated, you should seek medical advice beforehand if you are pregnant, have skin conditions, or existing chronic ailments.
